Morata, who joined Chelsea in 2017 for an initial £58million rising to a potential £70m, made a bright start to life in English football with seven goals in his first eight games.
But the Spaniard’s form dipped significantly and he went 13 games without a goal.
The arrival of Olivier Giroud in January then meant Morata was forced to watch on from the bench.
And to compound matters, Morata was left out of the Spain squad for the World Cup.

Chelsea transfer news: Alvaro Morata struggled in his first season
Chelsea are hopeful Morata can rediscover his goalscoring touch next season but it seems his father would like him to join another club.
According to Spanish outlet El Chiringuito, Alfonso Morata has called Real about potentially signing his son.
Morata joined Real in 2008 but has never able to fully guarantee a spot in the starting XI and ultimately left the Bernabeu for first-team football.
One club Morata won’t be joining is Borussia Dortmund after being deemed too expensive for the Bundesliga club.

Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc said: “I would also say that Morata is too expensive - without knowing [the] exact sums.
"Of course, we have candidates in mind. But the position of centre forward is currently the most difficult to fill in European top football.
"That's why we resisted selling Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for a very long time because he guaranteed us goals.
"At the moment, I have the impression that the transfer market - not only in the case of strikers - is a bit out of touch with reality. We have to act with caution and not do crazy things.”
